Eight Months Without a State Assembly: Putting People First or Saving a Political Seat?
Honestly, there is no reasonable excuse for indefinitely suspending the State Legislative Assembly (DUN). The COVID-19 pandemic is long over; that excuse simply doesn't hold water anymore.
If you look at the timeline from April 2026, it is hard to avoid the suspicion that political survival was prioritised over the interests of the people of Negeri Sembilan:
21 April 2026: The Undang Yang Empat (The Four Chiefs) publicly declared Aminuddin unfit to serve as Menteri Besar.
23 April 2026: The DUN session was abruptly suspended.
27 April 2026: 14 BN assemblymen withdrew their support for the Menteri Besar.
When you connect the dots, it looks rather convenient. The Assembly is supposed to be the place where majorities are tested and government accountability is upheld. By suspending the session while his position was under threat, one has to wonder—who really benefited? Was it the public, or a leader desperately avoiding a trial of strength in the chamber? It’s alarming to see a Menteri Besar seemingly willing to clash with the traditional institutions of the state just to cling to power.
The Reality: Eight Months of Silence
After the April suspension, the DUN never sat again before being dissolved in June, leading to the general election in August 2026. This meant Negeri Sembilan went for nearly eight months—from early December 2025 to August 2026—without a single assembly session.
Think about that: for over two-thirds of the year:
There were no checks and balances.
No policy debates.
No new legislation.
No official platform for representatives to address the people's concerns.
So, was this state government truly committed to good governance and the welfare of the public? Or were they willing to sacrifice the democratic process simply to save an individual’s political career?
